Fall Open House at the Municipal Rose Garden

You’re invited to our first fall season Open House at the El Paso Municipal Rose Garden on October 17, 2021, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. During October and November, the rose garden displays its final display of beautiful blooms before they begin to go dormant for the winter.

The garden encompasses more than four acres and has approximately 1,200 rose bushes with over 300 varieties. Most of the bushes are repeat-bloomers and have their first spring show of prolific flowers in April after winter pruning by Master Gardeners. They will still be blooming in October and after.

At our Open House, we’ll have an Information Table staffed with knowledgeable Master Gardeners ready to answer your rose care, garden, and landscape questions with research-based horticultural information. The Information Tables are stocked with a wealth of free publications on growing vegetables, gardening, and landscaping. In addition, Master Gardeners will be demonstrating how to deadhead roses. Members of the El Paso Rose Society will join us to answer questions about roses and their organization.

Be on the lookout, too, for the El Paso Gardening Handbook created by El Paso County Master Gardeners for our area. It addresses El Paso specific gardening concerns and best practices. The handbooks may be purchased for $10 each. For handbook sales, only cash is accepted, no credit cards.

Since 2007, El Paso Master Gardeners have volunteered at the El Paso Municipal Rose Garden as part of an agreement between the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the City of El Paso in cooperation with the El Paso Rose Society. We deadhead, prune, weed, and plant roses through the seasons. So please join us on Sunday, October 17th, from 12:00 p.m.to 3 p.m. and take in the natural beauty of the El Paso Municipal Rose Garden while the bushes bloom during the fall of 2021.

The rose garden is open on most days from March 1st through November 30th from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and admission is free. Parking is available; restrooms are not.
