Winter Rose Pruning Demonstration–Get Your Roses Ready for Spring

February 11 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free
George Garcia

Join us to learn how to prune roses to promote a healthy plant and beautiful blossoms. El Paso Master Gardeners will demonstrate winter pruning techniques for hybrid teas, grandifloras, floribundas, and other rose varieties.

In addition to the pruning demonstrations, a brief talk will be presented from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. near the east entrance of the garden. Discussion topics will include:

1) Types of roses
2) General rose care
3) Reasons for pruning and deadheading.

Be on the lookout, too, for the El Paso Gardening Handbook created by El Paso County Master Gardeners for our area. It addresses El Paso specific gardening concerns and best practices.

The El Paso Municipal Rose Garden* is closed for the winter season while Master Gardeners and other Rose Garden volunteers prepare the 1,100+ roses for spring bloom. The garden will open to the public on March 1st with peak blooming expected in April.

* Click the Municipal Rose Garden link to see the garden in bloom and to learn more about its history.
