Galveston County Master Gardener Kevin Lancon presents success growing Irish potatoes in your home garden. This presentation is for beginners and seasoned potato gardeners alike. Kevin will focus on different winning varieties for our area, best practices for maximum production, and a few facts and myths about potato gardening. In addition, Family and Community Health Extension Agent Ginger Benson will cover health and nutritional information, a few culinary tips and delicious recipes, ways to enjoy fresh homegrown potatoes, and a fun food demonstration.

Anyone Can Grow Roses

Galveston County Master Gardener John Jons understands for the average gardener the rose has the reputation as a “difficult diva.” A gardener with limited gardening experience can find caring for these perceived delicate plants to be a daunting task. John plans to change this perception by providing novice rose gardeners with information on new roses that are not only stunning but also low maintenance and disease resistant. These new roses make growing and maintaining outstanding roses significantly easier. John will highlight an introduction to the rose plant, how to select a rose plant, how to plant a rose plant and how to care for a rose plant.

Discovery Garden Tour for Texas City ISD, 21st Century Afterschool Pgm

Simms Elementary School 3rd-5th grade students who attend the tour are participating in or have participated in a Botany STEM afterschool class to explore how plants grow and the importance of plants in the environment. Students have been exposed to germination and propagating plants.
