Galveston County AgrIlife Extension Discovery Garden

The Discovery Garden is a 4-acre demonstration garden promoting best practices in home horticulture. You can explore vegetables to ornamental gardens, Earth-Kind Garden to Pollinator Habitat Garden, rose trials, seasonal pepper and tomato research and ongoing aquaponics program, and Urban Orchard programs featuring citrus, peach, fig, pear and plum trees. We offer workshops and demonstrations through hands-on learning at our garden for the benefit of our community.

Public Hours are every Thursday from 9am to 11am; except holidays and severe weather events. Please contact us if you wish to schedule a private group tour: galvestoncountymgs@gmail.com.

The Galveston County AgriLife Extension Office is located at 4102-B Main Street (FM 519) in La Marque, Texas, 77568.  We are located inside Carbide Park. The Extension Office is on the left as you drive into the park.  A map to our office is available from this link.

  • The Extension Office is your resource for a wide range of printed horticultural material. Publications are available on everything from planting a vegetable garden to stamping out fire ants. These publications are free and we encourage the public to come by and help themselves to these reference materials.
  • Plant specimens for weed, disease and other plant identification, as well as insect identification can be submitted to the office. We request that all specimens be sealed in a zip lock bag where possible and always include a name, address and telephone number. NOTE: we are not accepting citrus vegetation for examination due to citrus quarantines.
