Nacogdoches County – Explore the World of Fruit Trees

Nacogdoches County Master Gardeners present “Explore the World of Fruit Trees” Native and Nonnative, with guest Dr. Andrew King.

Dr. King is the Assistant Director of SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University and owner/operator of King’s Nursery in Tenaha, a 4th generation family-owned nursery in East Texas since 1915. Upon completion of a B.S. in Horticulture at SFA, King continued his education at Texas A&M, earned an M.S. and PhD, both in Horticulture. After teaching Horticulture at A&M for five years, Dr. King returned to East Texas to take his turn at operating King’s Nursery and join the staff at his alma mater, SFA, to work with the SFA Gardens.

Topics to be covered include: mayhaws, pawpaws, plums, persimmons, apples, pears, peaches, and pomegranates sprinkled with humor and King family traditions along the way.

The event is free and open to the public with refreshments provided. Please call 936-560-7711 to reserve a seat.

Bluebonnet Master Gardeners – Annual Plant Sale

The sale starts at 9:00 am and ends at 5:00 pm or until sold out.

Kids’ corner activities, mason beehive, planting seeds, and microgreens, gardening tools and magic worm castings for sale, demonstrations, native plants and Texas Superstars, fruit trees, blackberries, blueberries, pollinator friendly plants, cactus, succulent fairy pots, herbs, tomatoes, milkweed, roses, evergreens, annuals, lots of color for spring, and so much more!

Proceeds go towards supporting the four counties (Austin, Colorado, Fayette, and Washington) with graduating High School senior scholarships each year, community gardens, free-t0-the-public “Lunch N Learns”, and other local activities.

Burnet County – Hill Country Lawn & Garden Show

The 24nd Annual Hill Country Lawn and Garden Show, sponsored by the Highland Lakes Master Gardeners will be held Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Burnet County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office located at 607 North Vandeveer, in Burnet, Texas. This is the largest yearly fund raiser for the nonprofit focusing on community projects around the Central Texas Area. The free event has indoor and outdoor activities. The day is filled with over 35 artisans and garden vendors offering all types of plants, along with garden and outdoor inspired products and services. A bluebonnet-inspired donation quilt will be on display. A well-known silent auction will be back this year with new and repurposed items. There will be food, gardening demonstrations and a kids’ booth with hand on projects. Free eclipse glasses will be handed out while supplies last. Comal County – AgriFest Open House

Join us for this joint Open House event between Comal County AgriLife Extension Office, Master Naturalist – Lindheimer Chapter, and the Comal Master Gardener Association.

Tour the demonstration gardens and listen to Calvin Finch present “Monarchs and Milkweed.”

There will also be vendor booths, children’s activities, a ladybug release, hayrides, a scavenger hunt and more!

A Master Arborist will be on hand to answer tree questions.

Harris County – Fruit Tree Plant Sale

The Harris County Master Gardener Association (HCMGA) holds several public plant sales throughout the year. The funds we raise are used to support Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in its educational mission to bring relevant, research-based information about horticulture to the public.

Fort Bend County – Grow Your Own Fruit Trees

Fort Bend County Master Gardeners will hold their 24h annual Fruit Tree Sale from 9 a.m.-noon (or until sold out) on Saturday, Feb 10, in Barn H at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds, 4310 Texas 36 in Rosenberg. The sale will feature more than 1,200 trees representing 67 varieties of fruit/nut trees. Fort Bend Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions for shoppers.

Prices range from $25 for blackberry bushes to $30 for blueberry bushes and fig trees to $65 for limes, lemons and avocados. Lemon trees will include Improved Meyer, New Zealand Lemonade and Lisbon Seedless. Orange tree varieties are Navel N33, Republic of Texas, Valencia and Valencia Rhode Red. On the list of avocados are Brazos Belle, Joey, Lila and U-La-La. Shoppers will find these varieties of blueberries: Biloxi, Jewel, Misty and Rebel. All citrus trees available at the sale are certified to be disease free.
Sales proceeds support The Fort Bend County Master Gardeners Inc., a non-profit whose purpose is to disseminate research-backed horticulture advice to residents of Fort Bend County, in support of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
A limited number of wagons will be available to assist shoppers in transporting their plants. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their own hand-drawn wagon if they prefer not to wait for a wagon. Come early for best selection.

Galveston County: Patio Citrus

Join Horticulture Agent Stephen Brueggerhoff and learn about growing citrus on the patio. Through practical experience, Stephen will discuss container cultivation, maintenance and varieties like mandarin, satsuma, lemons, limes and more for a bountiful harvest. Dallas County – Fruit Budding and Grafting Workshop

Tree grafting flyerAn all-day hands-on workshop with Dr. Tim Hartmann provides a thorough understanding and skill development of fruit grafting and budding propagation. As a participant, you will be able to take home several grafted fruit trees. Your training will include demonstrations and hands-on practice with various techniques including Cleft & Bark Graft, T-Bud, Chip-Bud, and many others.

Lunch will be provided.
