Issues with Logging Intern/Volunteer Hours – Important

December 3, 2021 by tarab

Members.

I am receiving many questions concerning logging into the VMS for intern/volunteer hours.

Please note:  The website is a different system than the VMS portal.  In other words, if you submit a support ticket here on the website concerning issues with logging your hours, you are submitting a ticket to the incorrect place.

As webmaster of the site, I have absolutely nothing to do with the logging hours and have no access to the VMS system. For this, you will need to either reset your password or request assistance from the VMS Portal.  You can quickly go to the portal by following this link: https://vms.texasmg.org/sec_Login/

Please see the image below.  This is just an image and you will NOT BE ABLE to login/change password/request assistance on. For that you will need to click the link provided above.  In the photo below, you can see your options of:

  1. Forgot your username
  2. Forgot your password
  3. Request Assistance.

Pick the appropriate issue and then check the email that is associated with your VMS profile as the system will send you a link to either recover your username/password or will notify you that your assistance request has been forwarded.

Again, if you submit a support ticket here on this website, I will not be able to assist you with issues of the VMS website. The support ticket on this website strictly deals with login and technical issues for THIS website only.

Free Canna Plants – Updated.

October 2, 2021 by tarab

THE CANNAS HAVE BEEN CLAIMED. THERE ARE NO MORE LEFT

Hello Fellow Gardeners.

Am posting this on the fly – from my mobile so please forgive any typos & errors.

The recent rains have provided a great opportunity to dig up a large bed of cannas. They were planted by the previous owner of my home, so I am unable to say which canna cultivar it is.  It is orange with slight streaks of red near the center. I have noticed that the flower is not large but the stems do get about 6ft tall.

Hummingbirds visit them often.

I have just dug up half the bed  but have several decent sized clumps that can be divided into more plants.

If you’d like some, please text me at (662) 275-4429. You will need to bring trash bags for pick up.

If no one is interested, I will be trashing the majority of them.

HEB Grant 2021

May 16, 2021 by tarab

HEB has graciously provided $500 in gift cards towards the Nueces Master Gardener Annual Plant Sale 2021.

The HEB Gulf Coast Public Affairs Team says:

For over 115 years, H-E-B has contributed to worthy causes throughout Texas and Mexico, and we continue to support our community as strongly as ever. To help us maintain that tradition, we ask that you encourage members of your organization to visit their nearest H-E-B store.

We would like to thank Marie Privott, Chairperson of Fundraising for a great wonderful achievement.

If you have any questions about the HEB grant and/or how the gift cards will work, please contact Marie at: [email protected]

Keep up the great work Marie!

Walk Across Texas! 2021

May 15, 2021 by tarab

It is time for the annual Walk Across Texas Event!

Walk Across Texas is 8 week community program delivered through a web-based platform and is designed to assist people of various ages and abilities to establish the habit of regular physical activity.

Walk Across Texas! is designed for participants to be encouraged and supported by a team, using a fun and motivating approach.  The event challenges teams to track and log mileage to virtually walk across the state of Texas – 832 miles!

Using a system of self-reporting physical activities, a study performed in 2016 found that self-reported physical activity significantly improved from week 1 to week 8, increasing an average of nearly 5 miles per week, which translates to an additional 11,000 steps/week. For a quick teaser on Walk Across Texas activity equivalents, go here

Walk Across Texas has individual, youth and organization team sign ups available.  This is a great way to celebrate the new relaxing of CDC guidelines – get outside with friends and family and WALK!

As per Kevin Gibbs, if you participate you can put the hours towards VMS.

The Nueces County Challenge starts on 21 May 2021 and continues through to 15 July 2021.

For more information or to register please visit the Walk Across Texas! webpage.  Once you are registered, you will receive your link to create your profile and be notified of any virtual events.

Dates to know:

Opening Ceremony: May 21st, 2021 from 11:45AM – 12:15 PM

Midway Motivation: June 18th, 2021 from 11:45 AM – 12:15 PM
