Earth Day is an international event celebrated around the world to pledge support for environmental protection. The year 2022 marks the 52nd anniversary of the annual celebrations. It started in 1970 and is a day to raise awareness and do positive things for the environment. Senator Gaylord Nelson is considered the father of Earth Day. He created Earth Day as a way to force this issue onto the national agenda. Twenty million Americans demonstrated in different U.S. cities, and it worked! The 2022 year’s theme for Earth Day 1s ”Invest in our Plant.”
Earth Day happens every year on April 22 however in the Coastal Bend, it is celebrated on a Saturday on a day to facilitate participation and attendance. NMG partnered with the Coastal Bend Bays Foundation (CBBF) to setup a site in Corpus Christi for 2021. This year’s event will be held at Heritage Park on April 9, 2022 from 10:00AM till 4:00PM.
