The Reason for a Flower

This Week’s Books and Activity

On June 5th, for our Read & Grow with Master Gardeners series, El Paso Master Gardener M. J. Tangney will read two books to her audience. The first book is The Reason for a Flower by Ruth Heller. While the reason for a flower is to manufacture seeds, Ruth Heller shares a lot more about the parts of plants and their functions in her rhyming text and beautifully illustrated style. Heller is the writer, researcher, and illustrator of The Reason for a Flower.

Eva the Beekeeper

The second book to be read Saturday morning is Eva the Beekeeper by Jane Manners. In this story we learn all about Eva’s beekeeping journey. She shows what to wear to keep safe, all the steps to get honey, and why the bees make honey.  So, please join us to learn about our friends in our gardens, flowers, and bees!

Free Activity Resources and Book Raffle

Following the stories, Master Gardener Alison Wells will instruct children on how to be a detective or a gumshoe in their own garden. They’ll be shown how to use the Master Gardeners’ Read & Grow Dossier, keep track of their garden findings, and will get the opportunity to share their own garden-finding stories. To download a copy of the Master Gardeners’ Read & Grow Dossier for home printing, visit https://txmg.org/elpaso/master-gardeners-read-grow-dossier/ .

Visit the Books Are GEMS website to download other activity sheets related to this Saturday’s books.

Stay to the end to be eligible for the book raffle. We will raffle off The Reason for a Flower to one lucky kid attending on Saturday.
