Discovery Garden: Open Garden Days

The Discovery Garden is a 4-acre demonstration garden promoting best practices in home horticulture. Public Hours are weekly every Thursday from 9am to 11am; except holidays and severe weather events. We welcome all residents and visitors.

You can explore vegetables to ornamental gardens, Earth-Kind Garden to Pollinator Habitat Garden, seasonal vegetable research and ongoing aquaponics program, and Urban Orchard programs featuring citrus, peach, fig, pear and plum trees. We offer workshops and demonstrations through hands-on learning at our garden for the benefit of our community

Tomato Tasting in the Garden: Veggie Series Event

Ain’t nothing like a homegrown tomato! Join Galveston County Master Gardeners as we celebrate tomato culture. The public is welcome to particiapte in the tomato tasting and contest to vote for best in show. We will also present our tomato research results to help you improve growing your homegrown tomatoes.

*Note this event will be held rain or shine.*

Veggie Garden Series: Cucumbers, Squash and Melons

Galveston County Master Gardener Kevin Lancon presents best methods to grow cucumbers, squash and melons in your home garden. The seminar offers different varieties for garden success, best practices for maximum production, methods of trellising and how to deal with specific insects and diseases. Veggie Garden Series: Growing Great Tomatoes, Part 2

Part two of three programs: Growing Great Tomatoes by Galveston County Master Gardener Ira Gervais. Gervais reveals his secrets of successful production of great tomatoes. Learn about various varieties that do well in this area, when to transplant your seedlings, and best growing techniques. Receive information about soil requirements, nutrients, and temperature range for best tomato fruit set. With this knowledge, you can become the tomato king or queen on your street and be challenged by your friends.
