Learn the Benefits of Sub-Irrigated Planters
at SJC Master Gardeners Free Bring Lunch & Learn
Learn all you need to know about the process of sub-irrigation gardening, watering plants from below, at the San Jacinto County Master Gardener’s first free Bring Lunch & Learn of 2019, Sub-Irrigated Planters – How to Improve Your Container or Patio Gardens. Set for Thursday, January 17 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Coldspring Community Center, speaker and SJC Master Gardener Vickie Pullen will give you the tools and techniques for building a variety of sub-irrigation watering systems using simple, easy-to-find materials.
Gardening with sub-irrigation is the process of watering plants from below the soil line. Through wicking action, the water slowly rises from a reservoir below into the growing pot. Managing the soil quality and the water availability produces some spectacular results on patios, around pools, and in vegetable gardens.
A native Texan and an avid gardener for over 30 years, Vickie is a personal garden coach, designer and event coordinator with a focus on educating clients on appropriate landscaping for their environment. A sub-irrigation gardening practitioner, she is as a Texas Certified Landscape Professional, TCLP and certified by the Native Plant Society of Texas.
SJC Master Gardeners’ Bring Lunch & Learn is a quarterly free community event, held at the Coldspring Community Center, 101 E. Cedar Street, Coldspring TX 77331.
SJC Master Gardener share their knowledge and love of gardening with each other and the community through field trips, educational lunch and learns, outdoor training opportunities, and plant sales. Current projects include managing the Gardens at Coldspring Community Center, work with elementary students through Junior Master Gardeners, and volunteering with Friends of Lake Livingston. New classes form as membership inquiries are received.
