Purpose: Demonstrate use of hardy Texas Superstar plants in the landscape. What are Texas Superstars? These plants are Texas hardy and demonstrate superior performance under Texas’ tough growing conditions. During testing to earn the Superstar designation, these plants receive minimal soil preparation, reasonable levels of water and no pesticides. The Texas Superstar bed at the Fayette County Extension Office features some of these hardy and beautiful plants for Texas gardeners. “Texas Superstar” is a registered trademark of Texas A&M AgriLife Research, Texas A&M System.
Texas Natives Garden at E. A. Arnim Archives & Museum

Location: E.A. Arnim Archives & Museum, 101 E. North Main Street, Flatonia, TX 78941. The garden is between the brick and metal buildings on Hwy 95.
Work Schedule: 1st and 3rd Mondays every month 8:00-10:00 a.m., weather permitting. Please contact Debra prior to coming to work.
Purpose: The Texas Natives Garden is designed to educate visitors, students and area residents as to the benefits of native plants. The garden shows how native plants, trees and grasses attract bees, butterflies, and birds as well as providing a beautiful display of seasonal color. Water-wise gardening practices are on display as an educational tool to show how rainwater harvesting and a drip irrigation system can be used efficiently.
The Junior Master Gardener After School Program

Purpose: Master Gardeners and Master Gardener interns supervise the gardening program for students from Round Top/Carmine Elementary School, 4th through 6th grades. The Library Program Director coordinates the student sign-up with the school for a maximum number of 10 students. The students learn about gardening in raised beds for vegetables & flowers and use a kitchen in the center for learning from the Learn, Grow, Eat & Go curriculum. Master Gardeners instruct the students in their particular area of gardening specialty. The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners constructed a compost bin for for the students to “cook” their own compost on site.
