Weekly garden activity summary
Due to the New Year holiday short week, this summary describes Tuesday’s work in the garden. Activities were focused on garden clean up and clearing debris. Weeding was accomplished and dead plants were hauled away. Green material was added to the compost bin. Spinach was planted in the raised bed area. Irrigation installation to a raised bed area was discussed. The cabbages are enjoying the rain and cooler weather!

Planning for Vegetable and Herb Gardening
Thinking about starting a home veggie garden this year? Now is a great time to plan your garden! The first step is deciding what veggies and herbs you’d like to plant. The next consideration is the available space for your garden. Success in gardening requires planning, soil preparation, choosing seeds and transplants, irrigating and weed/pest control. Organizing the garden and ordering seeds as early as possible ensures a timely harvest. Central Texas soil composition varies by area and tends to be alkaline in nature. So, now is a great time to have your soil inexpensively and professionally tested before planting! Please visit the website http://soiltesting.tamu.edu/ for specific information about submitting a soil sample for analysis. Over the coming weeks, we’ll discuss important guidelines in creating a productive home vegetable garden!
