JMG Reports 2021 School Year

JMG Sites Summary – 2016-17 School Year

(JMG yearly registration opens August 1.  Go to www.jmgkids.us/.)

Anderson Mill Elementary – Round Rock ISD – MG Cathy Reyes – fun veggie gardening – attractive garden and science site – summer program.

Boys & Girls Club of Georgetown – MGs Arlene Boyer, Jody Foster, Ralph Brewer – Year-round site (6th yr program) provides both working directly w/ children & maintenance/prep volunteer hrs.  Raised beds & containers – mixed landscapes: vegs, flowers, herbs – nature walks.  June 15 – August 10 summer sessions.

Carver Elementary – Georgetown ISD – Teravista – MGs Rusty Dean, Mary Straver – active butterfly garden planted & maintained by Gr 4 science classes – outdoor mini lessons – insects – Study of Monarchs – Tx Day w/ native plants – Wildlife Gardener.

Cedar Park High School (Special Services) – Leander ISD – MG Arlene Boyer – adapted JMG lessons – outdoor raised beds – collaborative programming w/ general education students – careers in agriculture.

Florence Elementary – Gr 3 After School – from Learn, Grow, Eat, & Go!:  food preparation & nutrition – raised beds gardening and take home plants.

Gattis Elementary – RRISD – Gr 2 Special Project – Study of vegetables – plant needs – raised beds gardening – students’ letters to donors.

Georgetown 4-H – Parent Leader & MG Marrika Crown – 4-H members work toward certification in Learn, Grow, Eat, & Go! Program – MG Betty Jo Phillips provides support for their JMG square foot gardening in the MG demo gardens.

Meridian Charter School – Round Rock – After School – Mixed vegs, flowers, herbs in raised beds – Campus participates in Monarch Way-Station program.

Patsy Sommer Elementary – RRISD – MG Wendy Odlum – Gr 3 classes – new and existing raised beds – seasonal vegetables raised and donated to Round Rock Area Serving Center Food Pantry.

Pond Springs Elementary – RRISD – After School – fall & spring seasonal sessions – mixed use outdoor area – campus beautification.

Purple Sage Elementary – RRISD – MGs Walter & Betty Pupko (interns), Gail Kelley – Gr 3 classes – Veggie Tasting Gardens – Learn, Grow, Eat, & Go! Program – RRISD Chef prepared salads with their produce – landscape beautification – Dell Foundation Award Winner.

Round Rock Head Start – MGs Arlene Boyer, Ralph Brewer, Christi Gardner – Ages 3–5 – adapted lessons – story times – hands on – raised beds & containers with vegs, flowers, herbs – nurturing Mother’s Day plants.

Taylor Middle School (Life Skills) – MG Arlene Boyer – Gr 6–8 – adapted JMG lessons – hands on – in ground garden berms with vegs, flowers, herbs – courtyard landscape with native plants – campus clean-up – prevocational lessons on careers in agriculture – floral arranging – insects – fruits & veggie tastings.

Westside Elementary – LISD – Large dedicated school garden with vegs, flowers, herbs in raised beds – outdoor classroom – garden art – traditional JMG curriculum adapted per grade level.

Zion Lutheran School – Walburg – MGs Mike Linebrink, Deborah McGahey – After School – Long time established JMG program in east Wilco rural setting with Blackland Prairie soils – outdoor beds – landscape plants for campus – fun crafts.

JMG Services Provided during 2016-17 School Year: 

Berkman Elementary – RRISD – MG Jane Bowman – planting with students – (Parent group participates in the Better Living for Texans Program with Melissa Veliz).

Hutto – MG Patsy Bredahl – Hutto Home & Garden Show, Youth Outreach – Ray Elementary, Career Day – Keep Hutto Elementary School Beautiful event.

Knowles Elementary – LISD – MGs Cody Stringer, Jane Bowman – re-establish raised beds for students’ use.
