2024 VCMGA Training Class

OUR TRAINING CLASS FOR 2024 IS CLOSED. We look forward to having prospective new members apply for January 2025. Let us know you want your name on a list to be contacted in 2025.

APPLICATION HERE A new application will be provided for 2025.

IF you would like to know more about Master Gardener Training, this is our article for Gardeners’ Dirt in 2024.

MAKE AN IMPACT IN 2024: Join Victoria County Master Gardeners to become certified. Nelda Hensley, class coordinator, wrote in her article:

“The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service administers the Master Gardener program at the state level. Victoria County Agrilife Extension Agent Matt Bochat locally oversees the program.

Trainees are responsible for attending a total of 50 hours of instruction beginning Jan. 25, and meeting weekly through April 11. The classes will be in the Pavilion at 283 Bachelor Drive at the Victoria Regional Airport from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. The fee for the course is $200 and includes all instructional materials.

We will learn about soil, water, insects, trees, turf, weeds, vegetables, herbs, compost, propagation, Texas Superstars, native plants and so much more. Presenters will include horticulturists from Texas A&M and Master Gardeners.”

The Master Gardener certification training is an intensive 14-week course with both classroom instruction and field trips.  The instructors are primarily experienced Master Gardeners and AgriLife & Texas A&M University faculty and researchers.  The topics of instruction are uniform throughout the State of Texas as all Master Gardener chapters in Texas use the same detailed training manual developed by the Texas Master Gardener Association.  The manual was recently updated and will be used by the Victoria County Master Gardener Association classes.  The training teaches fact-based proven and sound horticulture practices in an unbiased manner.

If you could not make it to the Meet & Greet, we can answer all your questions about training to become a volunteer for Victoria County AgriLife Extension as a VCMGA certified master gardener.

Call 361-935-1556 if you have questions.
2024 classes will be Thursday mornings 9:00 a.m. til 1:00 p.m. January 25 through April 11.
