Culture
Veronica ‘Whitewater’ is easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun. Avoid wet, poorly drained soils. Plants may be sheared after flowering to revitalize and to encourage new foliage growth. May not be reliably winter hardy throughout Zone 6 area where consideration should be given to siting plants in sheltered locations.
A hardy breed, ‘Whitewater’ resists disease and pests while also being tolerant to cold, drought, heat, and humidity. Its nonaggressive behavior makes the Veronica ‘Whitewater’ plant a great addition to any patio container or flower garden.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Veronica peduncularis is native to the Caucusus, Ukraine and western Asia. Low growing and durable, ‘Whitewater’ is a vigorous semi-evergreen plant forming a dense carpet of small glistening white flowers borne on creeping, wiry stems. Even when not covered with flowers, his plant remains attractive due to its lush foliage of small, lance-shaped, deep green leaves. The foliage turns from an attractive green to burgundy to bronze in the fall. Will tolerate some foot traffic. After the main flush of bloom, a sparse, intermittent rebloom may continue throughout the remaining part of the summer.
Problems
No serious insect or disease problems.
Garden Uses
Perfect for rock gardens, along paths, cascading over stone walls, or as a ground cover.
