Echo Springs Blueberry Farm Field Trip

June 22 @ 12:00 pm

On Saturday, June 22, 10:00 a.m., a guided tour will be given of the field and processing area at Echo Springs Blueberry Farm, 7235 FM 607, Murchison, Tx. This event is part of Henderson County Master Gardener Association’s “Let’s Grow” Gardening Series. The tour is free and open to the public.

There will be designated parking. It is recommended hats and comfortable closed-toe shoes be worn. Sunscreen is also advised. Hot dogs will be available on site, or participants are welcome to bring a sack lunch to enjoy in the shaded seating area.

Blueberries can be picked following the program. Or, already picked blueberries will be available for purchase. Echo Springs also grows thornless blackberries. Other items for sale include jams, pies, muffins, and other goodies. Plants may be available should you wish to grow your own.

You may want to bring a small cooler to transport blueberries home. Echo Springs Blueberry Farm reports the blueberry bushes are loaded right now. Should you wish to purchase items from Echo Springs Blueberry Farm, be aware they do not take checks. They accept cash, credit cards, or Apple pay. Backpacks, wagons, strollers, and coolers are not allowed in the picking fields. The only pets allowed on the premises are service dogs.

According to the Texas Real Food website, blueberries can stay in the refrigerator for up to a week. They can also be frozen. With a low glycemic index, blueberries can be enjoyed by many. Some may wonder about the white coating often found on blueberries. This is a natural substance which protects the blueberries from drying out.

Come see a working blueberry farm with state of the art equipment. Learn how the entire process from field to store is done at Echo Springs. It will be both interesting and deliciously enjoyable.
