Grayson County Master Gardener Plant Sale Saturday, May 6

Grayson County Master Gardener
Spring is officially here, and gardening season is upon us. It’s time to enhance your garden with some new plants. Afterall, it was a long, hard, dreary, cold, miserable winter and early spring. Your garden deserves a makeover, and you deserve some new plant additions to add to your growing hobby. What better way to update your garden than “adopting” a plant that a Grayson County Master Gardener has lovingly grown for you.
On Saturday, May 6, 2023, the Grayson County Master Gardeners will hold their annual plant sale from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The plant sale will be on the grounds at the Grayson County Courthouse located at 100 W. Houston Street, Sherman, Texas. In the event Nature decides to offer free water, the rain date is scheduled for May 13, 2023.
During the plant sale Katerina Graham, Dallas County Horticulture Agent, will be hosting El Jardin en Espanol from 11:00 am to noon. Ms. Graham, who is originally from Ecuador, is well-versed in soil science, vegetable production, and Integrated Pest Management in the garden. Ms. Graham has a wide breadth of knowledge and will cover soils, introduction to vegetable production, and general pest management in the garden. Her garden presentation will be on the lawn on the south side of the Courthouse Square.
Before heading to the plant sale this Saturday, be sure to check out the Grayson County Master Gardener’s web page, txmg.org/grayson/. Click on Plant Sale Library. This page is an excellent resource for gardeners. It shows many of the plants that will be available for sale. Click on the plant you are interested in growing and information regarding the type of soil the plant prefers, amount of sunlight, color of blooms, etc. is available at your fingertips.
Some of my favorite plants will be at the plant sale, including the Coneflower, Gregg’s Mistflower, Maximillian Sunflower, Mexican Petunias, the Obedient Plant and Salvia. There will also be vegetable plants, trees and multitudes of plants that are not usually offered for sale at the local garden stores.
Unlike plants at the local garden centers, all plants offered for sale were grown and nurtured by Grayson County Master Gardeners. Also, Master Gardeners will be present to answer your gardening questions and assist you in your plant selection.
The Grayson County Master Gardener plant sale is an annual fundraiser event that benefits this nonprofit organization. The proceeds from the fundraiser help fund supplies for various community gardens that the Grayson County Master Gardeners oversee such as Groff Beds Pocket Garden, Fairview Veterans Garden, Eisenhower Birthplace, Habitat for Humanity, and Junior Master Gardeners, to name a few.
