Arbor Day is celebrated annually at the Cameron County Arboretum and the Cameron County Master Gardeners adopt schools throughout the county and assist with Arbor Day celebrations.
Spring of 2009, we hosted our first Arbor Day event in The Arboretum. Click here for that day’s photo album.
184 adults and children signed in! HOORAY!!! Over 120 trees were distributed to participants. Thanks to Rain Forest Wholesale Nursery for donating the 5 gallon Live Oak and Montezuma Bald Cypress trees.
Children’s activities included edible compost, coloring, seed tape, face and hand painting.
The AgriLife Extension Better Living for Texans Program also participated. Their goal is to bring awareness about healthy eating with vegetables.
Master Gardeners gave tours of the Compost Demonstration Garden , the Valley Forest Area and the Butterfly and Hummingbird Garden .
