Nature Watch – Phenology Study: Phenology is the study of recurring plant and animal life cycle stages, such as leafing, flowering, fruiting, the maturation of agricultural plants, the emergence of insects, and the migration of birds. It also involves understanding the relationship of these life cycles to weather and, in the long term, climate.
Making repeated observations at a given location on a weekly basis helps us notice the subtle changes happening in the natural world. Collecting on the ground observational data helps us create a detailed record of what is happening in Wood County gardens and projects. This information, over time, can help us understand the cyclical nature of plant, animal, insect and weather and their interactions, to help us plan better gardens, orchards, pastures and vineyards.
