Q. My new holly shrubs are dropping leaves and turning brown, is there something that I can spray on them to stop the problem?
A. The symptoms you are describing are more consistent with water stress. If the leaves that fell off did not have any spots or other symptoms of fungus and are just turning yellow or staying green when they fall that is not a disease or insect. Carefully dig around the plants and check the moisture of the soil they were growing in before planting them, the surrounding soil can be moist or even wet but if the root area is dry they can still die. As long as the area is not soggy wet or water is filling the test hole you dig then you are not over watering and need to water more often.
