Q: My St. Augustine is starting to turn brown near the curb and along my driveway, it does not appear to by turning yellow first, just brown, is this a fungus or something else?
A: I have had another call about this same problem and it appears to be cinch bugs, they like hot dry weather and usually start in the area of the lawn that receives the most sun and heat. Even with the rain the heat will return and the insects with it so you will need to treat. These are tiny little bugs that feed on the sap of the grass and like ants will run up and down the leaves. Generally the lawn area starts to look like it is not receiving enough water and the brown areas continue to get larger. The leaves will not pull off the grass and the plants will not pull up easily from the soil. Treat with a recommended insect control product suitable for your lawn and follow the label instructions.
