Q: I have two live oaks in my yard that have limbs touching the roof. Would it be okay to prune them now?
A: If necessary, you can prune them now, but be sure to immediately prune all fresh pruning cuts and wounds on live oaks and red oaks to prevent Oak Wilt. If possible pruning should be avoided during the period from February 1 to June 1. The least hazardous periods for pruning are during the coldest days in mid- winter and extended hot periods in mid-to late summer. Tree wound or latex paint will prevent exposure to contaminated insects.
