Eligibility Requirements:
The following eligibility requirements shall apply to candidates for Johnson County Master Gardener Association Scholarships.
The applicant must be:
- a resident of Johnson County, TX.
- a graduating high school senior student from a Johnson County, TX public, private, or home school, excluding Godley HS and Cleburne HS. (Godley HS students may apply for the Jack Rowland Scholarship – Cleburne HS students may apply for the Ben Oefinger scholarship).
- pursuing post-secondary education in horticulture, botany, agriculture, or a related field.
- have a 3.0 GPA or higher
- intend to enroll as a full-time student at an accredited college or university during the Fall and Spring semesters following graduation from high school with the intent of receiving a degree.
**All scholarship applications must be completed in full and RECEIVED by the JCMGA office by May 1 of each year.
Administration:
The general administration of the Johnson County Master Gardener Association Scholarship is under the direction of the scholarship committee of the JCMGA, which will evaluate all scholarship applications and award the scholarship. The Scholarship Committee will consist of current members of the Johnson County Master Gardeners Association, both current Master Gardeners and interns.
An interview may be required.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Awards will be announced the week of May 1 and will be presented at the JCMGA regularly scheduled May meeting.
Scholarship Disbursement:
The scholarship recipient will receive a $1000 scholarship paid in two installments: $500 at the beginning of the Fall semester and $500 at the beginning of the Spring semester. The recipient is required to maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 and be a full-time student during each semester covered by the award. Proof that the recipient has met these standards will be required before the second disbursement is made. The Johnson County Master Gardeners Association reserves the right to withhold unpaid portions of the scholarship if the recipient fails to meet the requirements above.
Scholarships will be awarded based on the availability of funds and will be used for tuition, fees, and required books. All scholarships will be paid directly to the school.
All unused funds must be returned to the Johnson County Master Gardener Scholarship Fund.
To ensure the scholarship disbursement is credited to the correct account, it is the recipient’s responsibility to provide the JCMGA with a college/university account number or student ID# before the disbursement is made.
