August 12, 2019 – Green Gate Farms
Green Gate Farms, a USDA certified organic farm was established in an underserved neighborhood in east Austin in 2006. An old historic farm site was used to create a community resource for neighbors of all incomes. The vision for Green Gate Farms is to cultivate an organic farm that feeds the mind, body, and soul. Our speaker, Matt Simon is a fourth generation Austinite who has been a part of Austin’s sustainability and food community for a decade. Matt has also earned his Permaculture Design Certificate and has worked with Compost Pedallers, a fossil fuel free, bike powered compost hauler. Matt has been a part of the Workshare program at Green Gate Farms since 2012. He has managed Green Gate’s River Farm since the fall of 2017.
