Master Gardener from 2006-2021
William “Harold” Pieratt Jr. was born on May 11, 1938, in La Grange, Texas and went to heaven on April 22, 2021, in Brenham, Texas.
Harold opened Pieratt’s Pharmacy in Giddings, Texas and owned and operated it for 38 years before retiring in 1998. After retiring, he and his wife Doris lived in Fredericksburg and La Grange. He had been a member and past president of the Texas Pharmaceutical Association, one of the longest serving members of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, served on the Dean’s Council at the University of Houston, and was a former member of the Rotary Club of Giddings where he had received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He enjoyed playing golf and walking and was a member of a walking club and the 6:00a.m. Coffee Club in Fredericksburg.
Harold was an avid gardener and became a certified Texas Master Gardener in 2006 with Hill Country Master Gardener Association. While there he severed as the Vice President of the Association in 2007. In 2012, Harold transferred to the Bluebonnet Master Gardeners Association (BMGA) where he was a longtime outstanding member. Harold served a two-year term as President for the BMGA chapter in 2018. He was deeply committed to helping promote horticulture educational opportunities to the public, neighbors, and friends. His friends remember his assistance with “gardening, lawn mowers, chainsaws, flat tires, rose and flowers in general, ranching, professional advice and secret formula for homemade liquid fertilizer…that smelled to high Heaven!”
Harold volunteered many hours annually to help educate the public and this can be seen in his founding and management of the BMGA Lunch and Learn Series, and he oversaw the Children’s Garden at the Roundtop Texas Library. Harold presented many programs for the BMGA monthly meetings including Top 10 Garden Gold Plants, Top 12 Succulents, and Hand Tool Care & Maintenance. He also could be found assisting with plants sales, fundraisers, and Kid’s educational camps.
Harold Pieratt’s sweet nature, servant’s spirit and dedication will be missed by the BMGA everyday.
