Home gardening continues to grow in popularity.  One of every three families does some type of home gardening, according to conservative estimates, with most gardens located in urban areas.  The goal of this seminar is to give gardeners the basic tools to help them make practical decisions and become successful vegetable gardeners.

Soil: Our seminar will begin with Dr. Jake Mowrer, State Extension Soil Nutrient and Water Resource Specialist via distance from College Station giving a presentation on garden soil preparation.  Dr. Mowrer will discuss the proper steps to understand, establish and manage garden soils.

Compost: If you’re interested in having your own backyard compost for your garden, this seminar will discuss how to get started. Audrey Gillespie, Big Country Master Gardener and Composting Specialist will discuss the benefits and uses of compost.

Vegetable Selection and Care: Dr. Russ Wallace, Extension Vegetable Specialist from Lubbock will wrap up our seminar with a discussion of a number of topics including Variety Selection, Fertilization and Watering and Weed and Insect Control.
