Assisting Research

Texas AgriLife Research & Extension Center – Overton, TX

The research center, located east of Tyler, engages in a number of research projects, one of which is headed by Dr. Brent Pemberton. This project, East Texas Bedding Plant Pack & Garden Trials has been ongoing since 1998. These trials are designed to provide information on greenhouse and field performance for both industry and consumers. The Smith County Master Gardeners have assisted Dr. Pemberton by planting seeds, transplanting seedlings and finally by putting the plants in the growing fields. Since all of the tasks involved are very labor intensive, this project usually is one of the largest for the SCMG in terms of volunteer hours.
