This year, the Smith County Master Gardeners will be hosting their 24th annual award-winning “From Bulbs to Blooms” conference and sale using a hybrid format. An introductory video featuring Greg Grant, waxing horticulturally on the Earth-Kind bulbs in the sale, is posted on this page of the Smith County Master Gardeners Association website, as well as our Facebook, and YouTube pages. The popular sale will be conducted online from October 3-October 11, with pickup October 15th at Pollard United Methodist Church (3030 New Copeland Rd. Tyler, Texas 75701). See the pertinent dates below.
On October 15th, at Pollard United Methodist Church, the From Bulbs to Blooms program will feature an in-person educational program, presented again by Greg Grant. The topic of the program is “From Arcadia to Arcadia: Grannies, Kissing Cousins, and Narcissus”. Greg Grant, a seventh-generation East Texan, shares an entertaining tale of serendipitously coming in contact with an instant friend from Gibsland, Louisiana, who not only inherited her grandmother’s farm, but her undying love of flower bulbs as well. But that’s only half the story – as it turns out, they were distantly related, with both families from the same community in Deep East Texas, and the very same house where Greg’s little bulb farm is located! Join us for this fascinating story. Seating is limited, so be sure to pre-register through the online store. Click here to jump to the link for the online store.
As always, the sale features tried-and-true, heirloom, hardy, and hard-to-find Earth-Kind bulbs for Texas and the South, a number of which are grown by Greg and the Smith County Master Gardeners. Greg Grant is the Smith County horticulturist for the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and is co-author of Heirloom Gardening in the South, Texas Fruit and Vegetable Gardening, and The Rose Rustlers. He also writes garden columns for Texas Gardener magazine and the Tyler Morning Telegraph newspaper and is a lifelong bulbophile.
