August in Southeast Texas is a season of anticipation. While our gardens continue to produce summer favorites, we’re already looking ahead to cooler days, fall planting, and another exciting season of learning.
This month is a wonderful time to prepare your garden for fall by refreshing beds, adding compost, planning your vegetable garden, and thinking about pollinator-friendly plants that will provide late-season color and nectar. Even in the Texas heat, there’s plenty to do to set your garden up for success.
Here at the San Jacinto County Master Gardeners, August is also a time of preparation as we welcome a new class of Master Gardener Intern trainees this fall. Our intern trainee program offers weekly classes, expert speakers, hands-on learning, field trips, and the opportunity to become part of a community dedicated to sharing research-based horticultural knowledge throughout San Jacinto County.
Whether you’re a lifelong gardener or just beginning your gardening journey, we invite you to explore all that our chapter has to offer.
