Master Gardener, 2010-2024
Pamala became a certified Master Gardener in 2010, but her love of gardening and volunteering began years earlier. In 2004 after moving to Buda, she completed the docent training at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and volunteered there for 18 years. As a member of HCMGA, Pamala spearheaded the creation of a community garden at the Onion Creek Senior Center in Buda. Those who volunteer with her there find her love of gardening contagious and the workdays informative and fun. Learning to grow vegetables, how to harvest them, and how to cook them are skills she generously shares with Master Gardeners and those at the Senior Center. At the Buda Library, Pamala took the lead in organizing and providing many seeds for their seed catalog as well as helping to arrange community seed swaps. The Kyle Library demo garden and the Buda Farmer’s Market info table have also benefited from her expertise and enthusiasm. Although she is formally retiring from Master Gardeners, Pamala says, “Gardening is my joy, and I will dig in the dirt as long as I’m able!”
