The NMG JMG Program uses the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension JMG Teachers/Leaders Guidebook and Student Handbook as the primary curriculum. We also use other AgriLife Extension literature as supplemental material. All materials use are research based ensuring accuracy of activities and projects.
The curriculum is comprised of eight (8) chapters. Each chapter has learning concepts with group and individual activities. To complete a chapter the student must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 12 horticultural activities, one leadership activity and one community activity.
The participating group can choose one of two approaches to the program. They can elect to do all eight chapters awarding the successful students with the Certified Junior Master Gardener Certificate and Pin, or the can take the Golden Ray approach. NMG JMG strongly recommends this approach.
In the Golden Ray approach, students are awarded a certificate and pin after completing a chapter. At the end of the program, those students who have received all eight certificates and pins are award the Certified Junior Master Gardener Certificate and Pin. Below are pictures of the pins left to right chapter 1 -8.
