Roses in the LandscapeIn line with our Mission Statement, the Northeast and Southwest Rose Garden Bed areas were established to demonstrate to the public the relative ease to grow and to maintain a Rose Garden. Instead of utilizing the modern Hybrid-Tea roses, which require high maintenance, a lot of Tender Loving Care, and normally found in a formal rose garden, the Demo Garden uses the “Old-Garden” rose type that may have been used in your grandmothers yard. Often called heritage roses, old garden roses, or antique roses, these roses are in general lower maintenance, longer blooming, hardier, more pest resistant, and more befitting of most Texas landscapes. Some of the Roses in the Garden are Earth-Kind Roses. This is a designation that is a Federally Registered Trademark by Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Texas A&M System. Also, the Rose Garden Bed areas have over 25 different Ground Cover plantings for additional ideas on landscaping around your Roses. However you choose…Old-Garden or Hybrid,Roses are the “Queen of Flowers”
