INTERESTED IN BECOMING A MASTER GARDENER?
McLennan County Master Gardener Association holds “intern” classes every two years, and our next class begins May 2025! (Applications accepted through April 4, 2025.)
If you’re passionate about gardening and eager to expand your knowledge of horticulture, why not take it to the next level? If you have the time to attend hands-on training sessions in the classroom and out in the field, consider applying for the 2025 MCMGA Intern Class!
This program welcomes gardening enthusiasts of all ages, from 20 to 80, who share a love for plants, learning, and community. Whether you’re a budding gardener or a seasoned green thumb, this is your chance to grow your skills and connect with others who dig gardening as much as you do!
WHAT THIS IS (AND WHAT IT ISN’T)
The McLennan County Master Gardener Association is more than just a program—it’s a community of passionate gardeners dedicated to learning, growing, and sharing their knowledge. We’re part of the Texas Master Gardener Association, an IRS 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit, and we proudly work alongside the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service under the guidance of the McLennan County Agriculture Extension Agent.
What We Do:
Master Gardeners help the public with lawn and garden questions, assist the County Agent, and take on community projects—but don’t mistake us for a garden club or a social group. That said, we have an incredible time doing what we love! Our members, ranging from 20 to 80 years old, all share a common passion: horticulture.
Top-Tier Training & Hands-On Learning
If you’re serious about gardening and eager to expand your knowledge, the Master Gardener Intern Class is for you! Led by recognized experts, our program includes classroom instruction and field trips, offering almost 80 hours of training (with a minimum of 60 hours required for completion). You’ll gain hands-on experience, connect with fellow plant lovers, and get a deeper understanding of horticulture.
Give Back & Grow
In return for training, participants volunteer with County AgriLife Extension-approved projects and events. After completing the coursework, you’ll put in 60 volunteer hours over 15 months to earn your Texas Master Gardener certification—a stepping stone to a lifetime of learning and giving back to the community.
The best part? You can tailor your volunteer work to your interests and skills while making a real impact on your community. Whether you’re advising homeowners, working on public gardens, or educating others about sustainable gardening, you’ll find a role that suits you.
If you’re ready to dig deeper into horticulture and join a fantastic group of like-minded people, we’d love to welcome you! 🌱🌿
