Karen Breneman became a Texas Master Gardener in 1992 and retired at the end of 2024.
Karen used her organizational skills to start the Membership committee in approximately 2015-2016. Together with the existing Extension Agent, she set up rules for the members, defined acceptable Master Gardener service hours, and organized the Association membership.
Karen started the Speakers Bureau committee in approximately 2000. For several years, Karen and two other Master Gardeners gave the majority of the Speakers Bureau presentations around Harris County on various horticultural topics.
She also served on the Plant Sales committee and the Education committee, and she served on the Board of Directors for two terms.
Karen contributed her writing skills to provide research-based information in Extension handouts on native plants and butterflies. In 2002, Karen published a book, “Gardening With Nature In Texas” (ISBN 1556228910).
Karen’s 32 years as a Master Gardener were dedicated to educating the public, organizing the Association’s membership, and leading the Membership committee from inception to her retirement.
