MGs & Interns,
Please note that due to some activities at the garden Wednesday, April 25 we are moving that work day up to this Monday, April 23; the normal Friday work day on April 27 will remain the same. This change is only for this week and we will be back on our usual Wednesday/Friday schedule the following week.
The new airport manager, her staff and the county commissioner will be touring the garden Wednesday so, on Monday, we will focus on lawn care – mowing and weedeating- as we want it looking it’s best. If anyone is able to assist with the edging and can bring your trimmer, it would be a tremendous help. We will also be tending the vegetable beds as everything is really “busting forth”. If you’re new to vegetable gardening, or would like to learn how to get started, now is the perfect opportunity to come and ask questions. We are raising just about every type of vegetable that can e grown in our area: tomatoes (6 varieties), eggplant (2 varieties), cucumbers, 4 kinds of squash, snap beans, lima beans, purple hull peas, corn, red, green and yellow bell pepper, mirliton, Jerusalem artichokes and okra – whew! You can’t get a more hands on classroom than we offer at the garden.
Sorry for the short notice about the change, but we just found out ourselves as all this was confirmed Thursday. Hope it doesn’t mess up you’re well planned weekly schedule; please come out Monday if you can.
I can’t end this without a very sincere expression of our deepest appreciation to all of you who came out to help with the Veterans Memorial project last Wednesday. With so many diligent gardeners, the work went quickly and the end result was a beautiful, tangible expression of our gratitude to the veterans and their families who visit the park.
As always, thanks for your help.
