MG’s & Interns,
First of all, everyone give yourself a big pat on the back for a great, well organized, successful Market Day. The help from everyone this year was tremendous, with everything from pre-sale prep work to the big move on Friday to the final tear down Saturday afternoon. I know Dorothy and Ann will be passing out their own kudos and gratitude to all who helped them; from the garden aspect, I thank all of you who worked so diligently these past weeks with watering, manicuring, planting, re-potting i.e., everything that went into keeping the plants in top shape up to the sale day. Also, thank everyone who donated such great healthy plants. Norm Alston raised over 60 celebrity tomatoes, sweet banana peppers and jalapenos and someone else brought flats of tomatoes and peppers to hangar but I never found out who the anonymous donor was, but thank you. I think just about every vegetable plant was sold.
I didn’t show an official work day for Good Friday but, of course, you all know you’re welcome to come anytime and just putter if you’re in need of a “dirt fix.” Wednesday, if weather allows, we will be cutting grass, trimming and hopefully getting some serious vegetable planting accomplished; bring your weedeater if you feel up to it. The blackberries are beginning to burst into serious bloom so we will fertilize to give them a boost. Thanks to Tim Schreck for bringing out a trailer load of rice hulls and mulching the citrus bed with them; it looks great. We’ve used all the leaves you’ve been dropping off and can always use more as well as more of that great ,free city mulch.
Best wishes to everyone for a happy, blessed Easter and be safe if you’re traveling. If you have out of town company and want to show off your garden, the roses and cannas are putting on a spectacular early show of blooms.
Come out when you can; the garden is looking better by the day due to all of your hard work.
