MGs and Interns 3.5.12

M.G.s and Interns,
Last week was very productive at the garden due to some good help from MGs and interns:  all pruning chores were completed, two vegetable beds were cleared out and are ready for planting, the Texas Bed (now full of blooming bluebonnets) was weeded and the grass was cut.  As a result, the garden has pulled out of the winter doldrums and, to be so early in the year, is already approaching a mid season look.
This week we want to continue the spring fertilization schedule.  Last week the citrus trees were done and the flush of blooms and new growth indicate they are all healthy and thriving and are providing pounds of pollen for the hundreds of bees visiting them.  The roses are next and hopefully we can give them a good feeding this week to help them produce another year of beautiful blooms.  And speaking of beautiful blooms, we were surprised last week when we were greeted by our Mountain Laurel in full flower, an unusual sight in this area.
Thanks for all the good help Saturday in spreading the MG word at the County Home and Ranch grand opening.  We were able to answer questions and hand out gardening material to many of the attendees and got additional exposure for the MG program and Market Day on Jim Love’s live KLVI broadcast.
