Janie Farler – Denton County

Janie Farler is an exemplary candidate for the Texas Emerita Master Gardener status, having made remarkable contributions to gardening and community education. Her journey in horticulture began when she completed the Master Gardener training in the 2003 class, igniting a passion for gardening and community engagement and defining her legacy.

One of Janie’s most significant achievements is her tenure with the Denton County Master Gardener Association, where she served diligently until her retirement in 2020. Throughout her time here, she held various leadership roles, including Director of Communications in 2010, Website Project Manager from 2006 to 2007, and leading the Garden Tour selection committee in 2006. These positions showcased her ability to not only excel in the field of gardening but also to lead and inspire others.

Janie’s accolades and awards underscore her commitment and dedication to the Master Gardener program. She was honored by DCMGA with the title of Honorary Lifetime Member in 2020, reflecting her long-lasting impact. Furthermore, she received the Special Merit Award in 2012 and 2015, the Executive Board Award in 2007, the John Cooper Educator Award in 2018, and the TMGA Outstanding Individual in 2009, demonstrating her consistent excellence and commitment.

Janie’s devotion to the Master Gardener program extends beyond her leadership roles and awards. She actively participated in various projects, activities, and events that supported the mission of the Texas Master Gardener and Denton County Master Gardener Association. From coordinating state conferences to serving on committees, leading the Help Desk and the newsletter team, and mentoring interns, Janie consistently went above and beyond to promote horticultural education and community involvement.

In addition to her Master Gardener status, Janie Farler is a certified Texas Master Naturalist, showcasing her dedication to environmental conservation and education. Her commitment to community service is further evident through her use of pottery-making skills to raise funds for worthy causes, reflecting her desire to give back to the community.

Janie Farler’s passion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the Master Gardener program, along with her extensive list of accomplishments and contributions, make her a deserving candidate for Texas Emerita Master Gardener status. Her legacy as a Master Gardener and environmental advocate has left an indelible mark on the gardening community, and her work inspires others to follow in her footsteps.
