Summer Series 2.0

Champion, Historic, and Indian Marker Trees

by Yvonne Sparks                                                                               August 8, 2022

The second installment of the Henderson County Master Gardener 2022 Summer Series, Champion, Historic and Indian Marker Trees, is scheduled on Thursday, August 18, 2022.  Master Gardeners are hosting the presentation at St. Edwards Education and Ministry Center, 1310 S. Palestine St., Athens, Texas.  The presentation will begin at 6:00 pm in the multipurpose room.  The presentation is free and open to the public.

The speaker is Master Gardener, Ann Miller Reese.  She will share fun and informative stories about the about the largest and most historic trees in Texas.  In addition, Reese will describe the ways Indian tribes shared directions for traveling in the absence of written maps.  She is a noted public speaker with over twenty years of experience.

Attendees will enjoy hearing Reese discuss what she has learned from the Advanced Master Gardener training given by Texas Master Gardeners.  She has done extensive research on the topic and will share information from Steve Houser, noted tree expert and author of “Comanche Marker Trees.”  Her presentation promises to be both educational and entertaining.

The mission of the Master Gardener program is to provide horticultural information to the public. Henderson County Master Gardeners do this in a variety of ways, from presentations and hand-on experience at their demonstration garden, The Harvest Garden, to speeches such as this one. The Summer Series has been a long-time program of Henderson County Master Gardeners.
