Gardening Guide Book Revised

Gardening Guide Book Revised

by Lydia Holley                                         February 3, 2025

It can be hard for a gardener to remember all the gardening chores that need to be done and when those tasks should be done. For those who have recently moved to East Texas, the gardening calendar here may be extremely different from what they are used to. New gardeners especially find it helpful to have a list handy, but even seasoned gardeners appreciate having an easy way to remember all the various duties which should be done throughout the year. Many use gardening journals or calendars. Unfortunately, many of those may need to be replaced every year.

Henderson County Master Gardener Association (HCMGA) printed a Monthly Gardening Guide Book in 2018 which has recently been revised. It still retains its format of gardening chores listed each month by topic: General, Vegetables and Herbs, Flowers, Trees and Shrubs, and Lawn and Ground Cover. It still has blank pages for you to include reminders specific to your own garden. It still has tabs and tips for each month. And it is still formatted to keep from year to year.

The revised edition has more information included in its 100-plus pages. Crop rotation, signs of heat exhaustion, crape myrtle pruning and scale control, native bees, oak wilt, and rose rosette are just a few of the new articles added.

HCMGA’s Monthly Gardening Guide Book would make a great gift to gardeners of any experience level. With information specific to East Texas, many gardeners in our area find it to be essential.

The newly revised Monthly Gardening Guide Book will be available at any of the presentations and events hosted by HCMGA throughout the year. You may also call 903-675-6130 to obtain a copy.
