Culture

A hardy, low-maintenance perennial known for its vibrant burgundy-red flowers and excellent heat and drought tolerance. Verbena EnduraScape™ Burgundy is commonly used in gardens as a ground cover, in containers, or for hanging baskets due to its trailing growth habit and extended blooming season. Choose a location with full sun and well-draining soil. Space plants about 12–18 inches apart for full coverage.  Water regularly until established, then reduce frequency; avoid water-logging.  Trim spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering. Light pruning in late winter can maintain a tidy shape.  Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer during the growing season for vibrant blooms.  Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can lead to excessive foliage growth and fewer flowers.

Noteworthy Characteristics

EnduraScape™ series was developed by Ball FloralPlant in an effort to produce plants with exceptional heat and cold tolerance.  Plant ‘Burgundy’ in spring after the last frost, or in early fall in warmer climates to allow roots to establish before winter.  Pick a spot with at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily for the best bloom performance.  Once mature, water deeply but infrequently. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot.  Trim spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering. Light pruning in late winter can maintain a tidy shape.  Prune back the plant by about 1/3 to encourage fresh growth.  Add a layer of mulch around the base of the plant to protect the roots during winter. Roots are cold-hardy to around 0°F.

Problems

Generally, pest-resistant but may occasionally attract aphids, whiteflies, or spider mites. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
