Culture

Grows vigorously and may need occasional trimming to maintain shape. Ideal for cascading over containers or hanging baskets. Can be overwintered indoors in colder climates.

Noteworthy Characteristics

The Tricolor Sweet Potato Vine is a stunning ornamental variety of Ipomoea batatas, prized for its vibrant, variegated foliage rather than its flowers. Unlike traditional sweet potato vines, this variety features striking green, white, and pink leaves that add a colorful, trailing effect to containers and garden beds. More compact and less aggressive than other sweet potato vines, it is an excellent choice for mixed plantings.

Problems

Generally pest-free but can attract aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies. Overwatering can lead to root rot. May experience leaf scorching in extreme heat without adequate moisture.

Garden Uses

Perfect for hanging baskets, mixed containers, window boxes, and ground cover. Adds a cascading effect to garden beds and provides a vibrant contrast to flowering plants. Can also be used in indoor containers with sufficient light.
