Culture
Best grown in well-drained, fertile soil with consistent moisture, Supertunia Vista® Bubblegum prefers full sun for best flowering. Regular fertilization every 1-2 weeks supports vigorous growth and abundant blooms. No deadheading is required, as the plant is self-cleaning. Can become leggy mid-season. A light pruning encourages bushier growth and more blooms. Use a sharp pair of scissors or pruning shears to trim back up to 1/3 of the volume of the plant. Pair any trim with a dose of water-soluble fertilizer to provide instant energy to help kickstart new growth, branching and flowering. Your plant will take a week to recover from the trim, but the end result is a fuller plant with more blooms going forward.
Noteworthy Characteristics
The Supertunia Vista® Bubblegum is a vigorous, high-performance Petunia variety known for its exceptional spreading and trailing habit. It produces an abundance of vibrant pink flowers from spring until frost and thrives in heat and humidity. With strong weather resistance and self-cleaning blooms, it requires minimal maintenance while delivering season-long color. It will perform best if an application of controlled release fertilizer is included at the time of planting. This applies to both landscape and container plantings. Supertunias are heavy feeders, but a single dose is usually sufficient for landscape beds in most climates. Plants in containers will need to be fed more regularly. A second application of a controlled release fertilizer can be applied about every two months to container plants.
Problems
Generally low-maintenance but can be affected by aphids, spider mites, or fungal diseases like powdery mildew if grown in overly wet conditions. Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal issues.
Garden Uses
Ideal for mass plantings, borders, containers, hanging baskets, and window boxes. Its vigorous growth makes it perfect for filling in garden beds or cascading over edges for a lush, colorful display. Works well in mixed plantings with other sun-loving annuals.
