Culture

Mama Mia Rosso Pepper is a hybrid, red Italian roasting pepper. “Rosso” is Italian for red, and this marconi-type pepper produces large, 7-9″ fruits on compact plants. Fruits are initially green and mature to a bright red color that adds a nice citrusy hint to the peppers. Mama Mia Rosso Pepper produces compact, 24″ tall plants that are great for containers or gardens of any size. An All-America Selections (AAS*) winner for productivity and taste, this variety produces fruits with a sweet flavor and thick walls to give it a crisp texture.

Plants should be started indoors 4-6 weeks before the intended outdoor planting date. Peppers can produce heavy fruits and will require some form of support to keep the plant upright.

*AAS – All-America Selections is an independent non-profit organization that tests new, never-before-sold varieties for the home gardener. After a full season of anonymous trialing by volunteer horticulture professionals, only the top garden performers are given the AAS Winner award designation for their superior performance.

Noteworthy Characteristics

Heavy yields of uniform shaped large, bright red fruits on compact plants. Thick-walled, smooth skin with sweet flavor. For gardeners eager for their harvest, Mama Mia Rosso offers ripe fruit 85 days after planting making it one of the earliest red sweet peppers on the market.
