Culture

Introduced in 2019, the Texas Legend Onion is a short-day onion variety that is widely adapted and can even be grown in some intermediate-day onion zones. Texas Legends are globe-shaped, yellow onions with a mild, sweet flavor. These onions get large and will average 6″ in diameter. They also store well and will keep at least 4 months after harvesting.

Texas Legend can be direct-seeded or transplanted, although transplanting is recommended.   Transplant onions 4-6″ apart. Onions are heavy feeders and will require significant nutrient inputs throughout their lifespan.

Noteworthy Characteristics

The Texas Legend onion plant variety one gives you a nice, globe-shaped, sweet, yellow onion with even more health benefits than the Texas Supersweet 1015Y.  It also matures 10-14 days faster than the Texas Supersweet 1015Y. Additionally, it offers better storage qualities than other sweet varieties.
