Culture

Red Creole Onion is an heirloom, open-pollinated variety. At maturity, you will find yourself with a dark red, globe-shaped, pungent onion about 3-4 inches in diameter. This is a short-day onion that performs well in southern climates. Once harvested and cured, these onions will store for 2-3 month

Red Creole can be direct-seeded or transplanted, although transplanting is recommended.   Transplant onions 4-6″ apart. Onions are heavy feeders and will require significant nutrient inputs throughout their lifespan. 

Noteworthy Characteristics

This short-day onion is great for the South and is a good keeper. Hard, flat bulbs have spicy, red flesh. A good cooking onion or in salads. Red Creole onions are resistant to pink root rot, tolerant to other disease, have very little bolt resistance.

Uses

Red Creole has a great onion flavor and crisp texture that’s perfect for cooking or eating raw in salads. This onion has a spicy, Cajun type flavor and can be added to any dish for a bolder experience
