Lucky Bamboo

Dracena sanderiama

Lucky Bamboo

Characteristics

  • House Plant
  • Sun: Low to Bright Light
  • Water: Grow directly in water.
  • Height: 1 – 2 Feet
  • Spread: Minimal

Culture

A hearty and resilient plant, Lucky Bamboo requires little care to maintain its rich green color and lovely visual appeal. Often referred to as the bamboo money tree, you want this feng shui plant to be in top health. Knowing the right Lucky Bamboo care techniques and rules ensures your plant will be beautiful, strong and healthy.

Noteworthy Characteristics

Lucky Bamboo grows best when planted in water. Frequently glass, stones, or beads are used to support the stalk. Change the water every other week. Use filtered, bottled, or rainwater for your lucky bamboo plant. This keeps the plant healthiest. Always make sure to keep the roots of all stalks covered with water. Add water as it is used by the plant. If Lucky Bamboo has been planted in soil, water thoroughly, then allow the surface of the soil to dry before watering again. Make sure that whatever is used for decoration or support, is non-organic and will not break down or dissolve in water. After time, tap water will leave hard water rings on the inside of the container. Use distilled water to prevent hard water build up on decorative vases.

Problems

Lucky Bamboo problems occur for a number of reasons: too much light; too little light; too many nutrients from nutrient rich water can cause algae; wrong water—use distilled or filtered water to prevent yellowing from occurring.

Garden Uses

Use Lucky Bamboo to help you achieve harmony in your home. Use the meanings for the number of stalks to ensure you select the best plant for your need. Never place plants in a bedroom, even if it’s a Lucky Bamboo. This creates too much yang energy and will have an inauspicious effect. One of the best locations to place a Lucky Bamboo plant is in the east or south sector of your home or office.
