Culture

As the first continuous fruiting grape, RazzMatazz® Muscadine Hybrid grapes will set blooms and fruit all summer. So you get to enjoy the rich sweet flavor of these gorgeous deep burgundy grapes mid-summer to first frost. Combining the sweet flavor and tender-crisp texture of table grapes with the disease resistance and native hardiness of muscadines, RazzMatazz® is the first seedless grape to provide gardeners with true fruiting success without spraying. Plant in full sun; fruit set and production will be reduced if the vines are shaded. Self-pollinating. At maturity (3-4 years), vines can produce 60-85 pounds of fruit, cumulative from mid-summer to frost.

Noteworthy Characteristics

Deep dark red fruit boasts a rich, sweet flavor with a touch of effervescence and popping crisp texture. Brix rating 16-17. Depending on pollination and environmental conditions, berry sizes (length x width) range from (3/8 x 1/4 inch) to (3/4 x 1/2 inch). RazzMatazz® grapes were created in North Carolina in 2007. They were developed by Jeff Bloodworth to meet the demand for a table grape that is highly resistant to disease and insects while having thin skin and the pleasing texture of a regular table grape. A cross between a vitis vinifera variety and a muscadine grape, RazzMatazz® grapes are the world’s first continually fruiting grape, growing fruit all season long along the vine, and can produce up to twenty-four clusters per shoot versus the average two to three clusters for regular varieties. Plants are available online through Guerney’s Seed and Nursery Company.

Problems

None noted. Has the disease resistance and native hardiness of Muscadine grapes.

Uses

RazzMatazz® grapes are best suited for raw applications and are most commonly consumed fresh, out of hand. They can be served on cheese plates, sliced and mixed in with green salads or fruit salads, or served alone as a sweet snack. RazzMatazz® grapes can also be boiled and made into jellies, jams, and wine. RazzMatazz® grapes pair well with olives, rosemary, basil, mint, cheeses such as brie, swiss, and gruyere, meats such as chicken, fish, pork, sausage, and brisket, brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, apples, walnuts, and pecans. They will keep one to two weeks when stored in a perforated plastic bag in the refrigerator.
