Culture

Growing in an upright rounded mound 18 to 24 inches tall and equally as wide, ‘Miner’s Merlot’ Euphorbia is ideal for use as an accent or in groupings in garden beds and containers. Perfect for rock gardens and a fine addition to the Xeriscape (low water needs).  The long-lasting lime colored flowers of are excellent for cutting and use in vases but do be careful to avoid getting the sap from cut stems on your skin as it might cause a rash. Euphorbia doesn’t require pruning, but if you must it’s best to wear some gloves.

Noteworthy Characteristics

A heat and drought tolerant plant that is a fuss-free choice for containers and garden beds, ‘Miner’s Merlot’ Euphorbia is an evergreen to semi-evergreen hardy perennial providing year-round color and unique texture in the garden. The flowers are just as unique and interesting as the foliage on this one. Whorls of narrow, linear leaves emerge a dark wine-red gradually changing over to burgundy tinted olive green backed in deep burgundy through the season, which is unusual for a dark-leaved Euphorbia. From late summer to fall dark red flower stems emerge topped with abundant clusters of long-lasting, saucer-shape, chartreuse flowers.’

Problems

The long-lasting flowers of Euphorbia are excellent for cutting and use in vases but do be careful to avoid getting the sap from cut stems on your skin as it might cause a rash.
