Culture

Tall, regal spikes of violet-blue flowers rise above handsome strap like, variegated foliage on the striking Camassia ‘Blue Melody’. The star-shaped blooms have contrasting green centers and bright yellow stamens. Flowers open sequentially on the racemes, from the bottom to the top, for a long-lasting show.

Eager to steal the spotlight is the attractive clusters of sword-like foliage featuring showy yellow margins that surround the bright blooms. Camassia ‘Blue Melody’ prefers moist, fertile soil in full sun to partial sunlight, and don’t worry because this beauty is resistant to deer and rodents!

Noteworthy Characteristics

Camassia is one of the few bulbs that tolerates poorly drained soils.  Easy to grow in full sun or partial shade. Plant in groups with late flowering tulips, alliums, or dutch iris for a showy display in the garden.  “Plant 6″” deep and 4″” apart. Leave in the ground and they will multiply.

Problems

Generally, pest and disease free.

Garden Uses

Stunning in beds, borders, cottage gardens, and wildflower meadows.  Will naturalize.  Excellent as cut flower.
